Bringing together world-class performers of opera, drama and music
The concept for The Performing Arts Centre was created with the aim of attracting world-class performers of opera, drama and music to showcase their talents and captivate Abu Dhabi audiences of all ages. Based in the Saadiyat Cultural District, this multi-functional venue will be home to concert halls, theatres and experimental performance spaces.
The Performing Arts Centre will stage the widest possible variety of innovative theatre, music and dance. It is also an extension of the Saadiyat Cultural District's philosophy of promoting all artistic mediums and as such will feature contemporary and classical music, ballet, opera, movement theatre, dramatic and experimental performance; a vibrant celebration of artistic performance.
Designed by celebrated Iraqi/British architect Zaha Hadid, The Performing Arts Centre will house a music hall, a concert hall, an opera house, a drama theatre, an experimental performance space, as well as an academy of performing arts.
Inspired by the forms within organic structures, The Performing Arts Centre is overflowing with design themes such as leaves, stems, buds, fruits and branches. The enclosed spaces have been created to maximise the use of natural energy; from huge windows that capture natural daylight to the orientation of spaces to enhance acoustics. Furthermore, the theatres and lobbies all face magnificent sea views to maintain constant visual contact with the surrounding environment.
The Performing Arts Centre will be part of a second phase of development for Saadiyat Cultural District.
