Situated off the west coast of Abu Dhabi are the Desert Islands; a collection of eight islands that embrace a world of natural beauty, spectacular landscapes, fascinating archaeological sites and exciting adventures.
Desert Islands consist of Sir Bani Yas Island, Dalma Island along with six Discovery Islands.
On Sir Bani Yas Island, the largest and most established of the islands, you can experience its spectacular wildlife reserve and one of the most important archaeological sites in the Middle East. The island also offers a range of first-class accommodation and leisure activities to captivate the most discerning of visitors.
Dalma Island is also a national jewel and home to between four to five thousand people, who take great pride in their heritage and traditional values particularly in relation to the pearling trade, the history of which can be viewed at the Dalma Island pearl museum.
The six Discovery Islands are uninhabited and remain untouched, serving as nesting grounds for migratory birds and turtles. TDIC has no development plans for these islands, preferring to preserve them and to ensure the continuation of the marine life.
