Tourism Development and Investment Company takes part in the Clean Up UAE 2011 Campaign
Abu Dhabi, 11 December 2011 – Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC) and Al-Futtaim Carillion joined forces this weekend to clean up the Saadiyat Beach dune protection zone as part of the annual Clean-Up UAE campaign and TDIC’s ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability.
The event took place on Friday, 9th of December and attracted more than 250 volunteers from different age groups, the youngest being 1.5 year-old.! Everyone showed up to take part in the event, which occurred along the Saadiyat Beach dune protection zone, near the Monte-Carlo Beach Club, Saadiyat. All participants initially met on Saadiyat beach, where they were briefed on how to clean the dunes whilst sticking to the dune protection guidelines and as a result 2060 kg of waste was collected.
Millie Plowman, Environment Manager at TDIC, said: “We would like to extend our thanks and appreciation to all the volunteers who joined us to take part in this environmental initiative. The clean-up is held annually on the 12th of December across all of the UAE However, TDIC along with AFC decided to hold our own joint event over the weekend in order to give our staff the opportunity to participate in this great campaign and act as environmental ambassadors of Saadiyat and the UAE as a whole.”
TDIC staff will also take part of Clean Up UAE on other TDIC’s flagship project in the Western Region on December 12th by cleaning the northeastern beaches of Sir Bani Yas Island.
The Emirates Environment Group’s (EEG) Clean-Up UAE 2011 is the tenth edition of this annual campaign. Last year, more than 20,000 individuals participated across 106 locations in the massive clean-up, collecting more than 100 tonnes of waste.
